Overview

Pharmacists are often the most accessible healthcare providers, close to patients and embedded in their communities, with more than 90% of people in the U.S. living within five miles of a pharmacy. Because of this accessibility, pharmacists play a crucial role in controlling the HIV/AIDS epidemic, increasing timely access to HIV postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent infection.

This activity will build upon the HIV material covered within the Collaborative Practice Certification Program, introducing PEP guidelines for antiretroviral treatment following potential exposure to HIV. Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists providing services under a written collaborative practice agreement will have the clinical knowledge necessary to practice under an access-to-care plan, in which a collaborating physician authorizes the pharmacist to screen adults for HIV exposure or order and dispense HIV PEP under the written collaborative practice agreement.

Florida Board of Pharmacy
This course is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy to fulfill the Pharmacist-Application for HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis Certification course requirement. Visit the Florida Board of Pharmacy website to view a full list of requirements to order and dispense HIV postexposure prophylaxis treatment in the State of Florida.
