HIV Therapy: Disease Management and Treatment Optimization

Pharmacists can play a critical role in the care of persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This activity will provide an overview of the medications used in the treatment of HIV. Specifically, discussed will be the different classes of antiretrovirals, including the mechanism of action, common side effects, drug-drug interactions, and limitations or special considerations which are unique to specific agents. Also described are the current treatment recommendations for initiating HIV drug therapy with antiretrovirals. Additionally, we will review Florida law as it pertains to HIV testing, including partner notification, privilege to warn, and testing in pregnant women.

This program is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy to meet the educational requirements outlined in Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B16-26.103 for pharmacists renewing their license for the first time in Florida.

Florida Pharmacist License Renewal If your initial renewal occurs less than 12 months from your initial licensure date you are required to complete 1 hour in HIV/AIDS. If you are renewing your license for the first time AND your initial renewal occurs 12 months or more after initial licensure date you are required to complete 1 hour in HIV/AIDS.

Requirements for Successful Course Completion In order to earn credit for this course, participants must review the course material and complete each corresponding assessment with a grade of 70% or higher. Three chances to pass each assessment will be given. If a passing score is not earned by the third attempt, the participant must re-enroll in the course. Upon successful completion of all coursework, participants must complete a course evaluation form. Credit Designation This Continuing Pharmacy Education program is approved for a total of 1.00 contact hour(s). You will receive credit for this activity through NABP's CPE Monitor system within 72 hours following the activity. Please go online at that time to view your statement of credit. Continuing Pharmacy Education Requirements
Pharmacy continuing education credit will be earned based on completion of this activity. To receive continuing education credit, your completion must be verified, and a program evaluation must be completed and submitted at the end of the program. Credit will be issued through the CPE Monitor and CE Broker websites.

Florida pharmacist (or Florida consultant pharmacist) numbers, NABP e-Profile ID numbers and participant’s Month and Day of Birth are required for credit issuance. UF CPE is not responsible for unissued education credits where the required information is either omitted or submitted incorrectly. UF CPE will contact registrants once by email to attempt to obtain missing or invalid information.
